COVID-19 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I do not to get sick from COVID-19?

· Washing our hands very well several times a day allows us to eliminate the virus.

· Avoid touching our eyes, nose and mouth

· Stay home whenever we can, keep it clean and disinfect surfaces and the things we touch the most.

· Always keep a “healthy distance” from other people. Healthy distance is the space we have around our body when we extend our arms.

Is there medical treatment to protect me from the virus?

No. At the moment, there is no vaccine or medicine for this disease. Health personnel are already working to make the vaccine to protect us from this virus. Also, most people who get sick from the virus will only have mild symptoms, and will recover quickly from the disease.

Do the masks protect me from contagion?

No. They only protect us from the small droplets of saliva that other people expel when they speak, but since they do not cover the eyes, the virus can enter there as well. If we buy too many face masks we can cause that afterwards there are no doctors and nurses who need them because they are in direct contact with sick people.

Is the virus transmitted through sweat?

No. The virus is not transmitted through sweat. The contagion is through very small saliva drops that we cannot see coming out of the nose or mouth when we speak, sing, cough or sneeze. That is why it is advisable to be at a healthy distance, which is the space we have around our body when we extend our arms.

Are there people who can’t get it?

No. Everyone can have the virus, pass it on to someone else, and get sick. Most will have mild symptoms, but can pass it to other people who could become ill and need hospitalization (older people, pregnant women, people with disabilities, with diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, among others).

If I come into contact with foreigners or people of Asian origin, will I get it?

No. Anyone, no matter where they were born or where they live, can have the virus, pass it on, or get sick. There is no reason to discriminate against anyone for fear of illness.

Is it true that men are infected more than women?

Yes. So far, there are more men with the virus and those who have become ill. This can be explained because there are also more men who go out to work. Women are also infected, they can get sick and pass the disease on to others.

Can I transmit or acquire the virus from my pets?

Until now it has not been seen that the virus can pass to our companion animals, like dogs and cats, nor that they can infect us or other pets. Still, it is recommended to clean your legs after returning from a walk.

Can I get the virus through the environment?

Yes. The saliva drops of people who have the virus can stay for some time on clothing, commonly used objects and places that many people touch. That’s why handles, rails, tables, light switches, door bells, elevator buttons, mailboxes, computer boards, telephones, tablets, computers, keys, and coins need to be constantly disinfected.
